Renowned photographer David Plowden and his wife Sandra spent November 3-7, 2010 in Sacramento attending events at the California State Railroad Museum. Plowden made three presentations about his railroad photography, gave four book signings, and addressed attendees at the museum's 22nd annual Trainmaster Reception. Plowden also donated a print, which sold in the Trainmaster Reception's silent auction.
On Thursday evening, November 4, the Center sponsored a presentation, reception, and book signing. About 40 people attended the event, which included wine and hors d'oeurves in the museum's main exhibition hall.
The Center is also sponsoring Plowden’s “Requiem for Steam” exhibition, a companion to his new book of the same name. The exhbition is up through the end of April at CSRM, behind the Empire locomotive in the main exhibition hall next to the cab-forward locomotive. The exhibition will next move to The Valley Railroad Company, Essex, Connecticut, from June 25 through September 5, and then the Grohmann Museum at the Milwaukee School of Engineering near downtown Milwaukee, September 23 through December 11, 2011. Plowden will speak at the Grohmann Museum on the evening of October 21.
Plowden plans to attend the Center's next “Conversations about Photography” conference, April 13-15, 2012 at Lake Forest (Illinois) College. Requiem for Steam will be avialable for purchase at the conference, and Plowden will be happy to sign it and his other books.
