Writer-photographer Karl Zimmermann is the author of more than 20 books, virtually all partly and some primarily or exclusively illustrated with his own photographs. Little Trains to Faraway Places, his most recent book, was published in 2010 by Indiana University Press. Zimmermann’s work has appeared in many magazines and in newspaper travel sections across the country.

In particular, he is a frequent contributor to Trains and Classic Trains magazines and is North American Intercity Rail columnist for Passenger Train Journal. His photographs and writing have appeared in Railfan & Railroad Magazine and Railroad Model Craftsman, and he was represented in 2010 in the premier issue of Great Railroad Photography, published by Carstens. Currently, he often writes for the travel section of the Los Angeles Times, where his photographs typically accompany his stories. More information is available at KarlZimmermann.com.
