Keith Burgess: Desert Grade Crossing The first thought that comes to mind here is: emptiness. A lone county road in Southern California's San Bernadino County crosses the lightly used rails of a track now operated by the California and Arizona RR. Void of houses, power lines, fences, people and cattle, all by virtue of lack of water, only the tire tracks on the road give evidence of current human habitation. The high thin clouds in the sky cause a diffused sunlight and present us with a low-contrast scene, adding to the feeling of loneliness. |
