Forty eight photographers entered the 2007 CRPA photo contest, each submitting up to 5 prints, the most entries ever received in the 5 year history of the annual event. I've been privileged to witness most of the photo judging process for the Center and this year's collection with the contest theme of "Fascination of Railroad Machines" included the strongest group of images yet entered. Good photos make for difficult judging, for each of the judges must agonize attempting to pick the best of the best. As an avowed lover of imaging, rail themed or not, I cannot resist sharing my own thoughts on these wonderful pictures, and I've selected a number of prints for comments that missed the award level to add to the group of winners. Please note, there are many, many more images submitted worthy of comment and awards than what follows. Also note, the original prints may have characteristics in texture that will not carry through to internet digital imaging or commercial magazine printing. Railfan & Railroad magazine published the top winners in its July issue. Mel Patrick |
