Strong lines, dramatic sky, and subtle earth tones combine in a photo that universally speaks to every imagined image of a steam locomotive in the American West. The curving line of the train and the wedge of smoke direct the eye to the locomotive, which is fixed between the brightly lit scene on the right, and the dark, foreboding scene on the left.
