The tracks suspended in a mysterious, foggy landscape radiate an otherworldly quality that connects with viewers on a subconscious level. The strong contrast gives a three-dimensional quality to the tracks, and with the support structures hidden, they appear to magically float above the water before disappearing into the background. The slight curve leads the eye naturally out of the scene and preserves the mystery. This image was made from the last car of Amtrak’s Texas Eagle while traveling westward near the Arkansas-Texas stateline.
