This dawn scene of Union Pacific's Bend Local at Redmond, Oregon, is almost impressionistic with a soft focus and low blue light. The photographer turns the forms of the locomotive, centerbeam flatcar and switch stand into elemental shapes, framed by rails below and wires above; the image could almost be a painting.
